MATTEO MELIOLI
VILLA STEINER
The new building is conscious of its unique relationship within the existing site and is respectfully and sensitively positioned, appearing as if to land delicately on its supports, but maintaining an independent architectural eminence.
We contemplated a contemporary interpretation of castle typology, illustrating its adaptability to modern tastes and its marketing potential for cutting-edge architecture to appeal to high-end luxury resort clientele.
Perceptions of isolation nurtured an understanding of the castle's unique location; the building must be a single entity confined within the castle walls.
Guests are immersed in the immense beauty of a stunning unspoilt valley, completely secluded and accommodated within a luxurious and sumptuous resort for private relaxation and vitalisation; the ultimate mountain retreat.
We also wanted to challenge the preconceptions of how prefabricated timber buildings were imagined. This was achieved by encasing a standardised grid system of timber panels within an organic, flowing outer shell.
Creating a building that appears to be very bespoke and expensively constructed but for the most part is assembled out of inexpensive and very efficient prefabricated panels.
