RESEARCH WORKS I REPETITION IN ARCHITECTURE
WORK IN PROGRESS
18JUNE19_This section is a collections of thoughts and notes on ongoing projects which focus on the idea of repetition in Architecture.
It first started in 2011 when comparing the acoustic field of the gallery in the Sansovino’s Library in Venice and the rolling mill factory in Marghera (later demolished in 2017).
By means of analogy, the two building share a common structure, which is about it repetitive pattern, visual, structural an acoustic.

24 AUGUST19_focus on the analogy between the Sansovino’s Library (SL) and the Venice rolling factory (CVM10). Noticed the elongated shape of the buildings made by repetition of formally and structurally identical elements. Move to consider the acoustic field and how to compare the fields themselves. Have the option to visualise the sound fields of the buildings and visually compare the sound-shape generated (see PhD research). Have also a second option consisting in measuring the sound properties of both the SL and CVM10. The first uses a visual approach the second would require acoustic equipments. I decide to approach visually first, while developing knowledge in sound measuring at the same time. The sketches here below show my idea of visual analogy among the structures.

At first, I notice SL and CVM10 have an elongated shape which I decide to represent by using parallel prisms. The drawing shows a cluster of prisms with lines to links all them. Their position in space suggests a transition from one to another: a sequence arises. The sequence is driven by the formal analogy between SL and CVM10, the eye connects the objects in space and move along the sequence merging the CVM10 into SL.

Add quote from M. Focault.
At second, I focus on the structure behind the shape and I identify the repetitive elements like the arch and the truss wall. This is the module and the building is made upon its repetition . I drew a truss structure and a portal arch overlapped and equally distanciated. The arch looks like supported by the truss wall behind and both form a layered system of similar entities.

11 OCTOBER 19_Visual perception -as well as visual one- happens in time. I developed the impression that sight needs time as medium to move into its visual field. Similarly sounds need air to propagate in its acoustic one.
- Sound is inside the air, is sight inside time?
Though to represent the passing of time by the moving of light and the changing of its shadow. The sequence starts with a shadow and ends with a different one and that difference is the visual representation of time passed by the beginning and the end.
